Northvolt Drei - one round onwards

Green light from the EU Commission

Great relief and joy for all involved: on 8 January 2024, the EU Commission approved the state aid for the planned "Northvolt Drei" battery gigafactory near Heide. Energieküste welcomes the EU's decision to "support measures in areas that are crucial for accelerating the green transition and reducing fuel dependency". With Energieküste's sustainable electricity, Northvolt Drei will produce batteries with the lowest carbon footprint in continental Europe.

In our journey to become a climate-neutral industrialised country and also to achieve energy sovereignty, this is a very, very important decision that has been taken today. And I am very, very happy about what was decided today in Brussels.
Daniel Günther
Minister President of the State of Schleswig-Holstein

Go of the municipalities
Now the whole of Europe is looking at the municipalities of Lohe-Rickelshof and Norderwöhrden. Here, in the neighbourhood of the planned battery factory, things will get exciting once again on 18 and 22 January: the municipal councils will decide on the approval of the development plans.

Now it's up to the local authorities to decide. I can only ask them to clear the way for the investment.
Dr Robert Habeck
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection
I actually expect that the relevant decisions will be made and that they will result in a positive outcome.
Stefan Mohrdieck
District Administrator of the Dithmarschen county

The Energieküste is also hoping for a go-ahead for "Northvolt Drei" from the municipalities in order to take big steps towards a sustainable future in Schleswig-Holstein.
