Transforming Energy on the Energieküste
Inspiring talks and networking events at HUSUM WIND 2025
What a 35th anniversary for HUSUM WIND! Around 550 exhibitors from 23 countries and 12,300 visitors from 51 nations responded to the call of the most important renewable energy trade fair for the German-speaking market from September 16th to 19th, 2025. The Energieküste, which just celebrated its 5th birthday, was right in the middle of it all at the Schleswig-Holstein joint stand with exciting talks, networking events, and energetic exchanges.
In his welcoming speech at the opening, Minister President Daniel Günther summed up the mood: ‘In Schleswig-Holstein, we are already generating 9.4 GW from renewable energies, and with the permits that have been granted, we will achieve over 12 GW this year. It was and remains a success story.’
Talks with Katharina Reiche are planned. The framework conditions must be right.
Northern Lights Network Lunch on everyone's minds
The organizers were delighted: 180 guests from all over Germany attended the Northern Network Lunch on the first day of the trade fair in high spirits and with great interest. A highlight was the enthusiastic welcome address by Dr Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, Minister of the Interior of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, in which she praised renewable energies. Thanks to renewable energies in Schleswig-Holstein, we in the state have been benefiting for years from the creation of many jobs and more.
In addition to Energieküste, the organizers of the successful event included: Renewable Energies Hamburg (EEHH) | EE.SH Schleswig-Holstein Renewable Energy Network Agency EE.SH | IHK Cottbus | IHK SH | Climate-Neutral Economy NF | State Association for Renewable Energies SH e.V. | WAB e.V..V | watt_2.0 e.V..0 | WindEnergy Network e.V.
Thrilling Energieküste panel discussion with Minister Madsen
Politics, planning, perspectives: The Energieküste invited four high-profile experts to a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Schleswig-Holstein – an attractive location for international investors.'
‘We are trying to convince investors that they are coming to a habitat where expertise already exists,' said Hauke Brauer, Head of Internationalization at WTSH GmbH. 'Of course, we always have to position this. We do the same internationally.’
High energy prices were one of the hot topics. ‘We no longer generate energy centrally, but decentrally. And now, of course, these high ancillary electricity costs are arising, in this case grid fees’, said Peter Heberling, plant manager at Sasol Brunsbüttel. Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Economic Affairs Claus-Ruhe Madsen: 'We will lobby Berlin and also southern Germany. If we don't become more competitive, I'm worried about the industrial location.'
Energy prices are too high, we are still fighting for price zones.
In terms of sustainable mobility, we are far, far behind in public transport.
Talk: The renewable energy startup scene
What's happening with founders, young companies, and the startup accelerator GATEWAY49 on the west coast? Kirsten Voss, project manager at Energieküste, together with Katja Rosenburg, EE.SH Schleswig-Holstein Renewable Energy Network Agency EE.SH, moderated a talk with Dr Frank Schröder-Oeynhausen, CEO of GATEWAY49, Dr Matthias Hüppauff, CEO of North Frisia Economic Development Agency, Wolfgang Heydlauff, CEO of ADC Connection Solutions GmbH, and Max Torkler from elementarhy.
All around to exchange ideas, be impressed and celebrate
There was also a great program beyond the exhibition halls. At the start of HUSUM WIND, 300 guests from the renewable energy sector, politics and business gathered at the traditional reception in the town hall. One highlight was the impressive drone light show over the harbor.
On Wednesday, the Energieküste continued with a wind excursion and many amazing women. Take the bus first thing in the morning to the Windtestfeld Nord for prototype testing. Located in Südermarsch, the test field has space for six wind turbine prototypes from Schleswig-Holstein. Very informative and well explained!
The evening belonged to the ladies of the wind industry at the inspiring ‘Women in Wind’ event. The sold-out event in the NCC auditorium offered plenty of opportunity for celebration and networking.
