Energieküste inspires with climate-neutral business

Lively interest in commercial real estate at EXPO REAL 2025

Schleswig-Holstein is not only popular in Bavaria as a holiday destination. The Energieküste and its network partners were delighted to receive a great deal of interest at the Schleswig-Holstein joint stand at EXPO REAL in Munich from 6th to 8th October 2025. As in previous years, the Energieküste scored highly with its abundant green energy production, which is particularly profitable for energy-intensive industries.

ENERGIEKÜSTE TALK with Julia Carstens

How the ‘decarbonisation of the construction industry’ is succeeding on the Energieküste was explained during the exciting ENERGIEKÜSTE TALK by State Secretary Julia Carstens, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Labour, Technology and Tourism of Schleswig-Holstein, Michael Scharpf, Head of Sustainable Construction at Energieküste partner Holcim Germany, Stefanie Jacobi, Business Developer Carbon Transport Infrastructure, Open Grid Europe, and Philipp-Henrik Arndt, Business Development Manager, Entwicklungsgesellschaft Westholstein mbH.

Carbon2business: The use of CO2 as a raw material was one of the main topics of discussion. Michael Scharpf highlighted the advantage: The first climate-neutral cement plant in Lägerdorf on the west coast, which is currently under construction, is opening up new opportunities. It will enable Holcim to become a producer of a very valuable raw material, namely carbon. A raw material that supports and drives society.

To this end, Open Grid Europe is currently planning a pipeline connection from the new Holcim plant to Brunsbüttel. The pipeline will be part of a nationwide CO2 network. Julia Carsten sees the expansion of the CO2 pipeline as a locational advantage for Schleswig-Holstein. Unavoidable emissions can be reduced, thereby supporting the goal of transforming Schleswig-Holstein into a climate-neutral industrial state.

A joint ‘Moin’ for the region

The Energieküste was represented by egw Economic Development Agency Westholstein, WFG North Frisia Economic Development Agency and WEP Economic Development Agency of Pinneberg district. Moritz Schulz, Project Manager at WFG: ‘Here in particular, we are using our excellent location conditions for the expansion and further development of renewables in order to play a key role in driving forward climate change in Germany.’

42,000 visitors from more than 70 countries and 1,742 exhibitors from 34 nations – the open and communicative atmosphere of EXPO REAL and the numerous opportunities for important networking make the international real estate fair worthwhile for us northerners.
