2nd Infrastructure Forum Energieküste

The 2nd Infrastructure Forum Energieküste, hosted by Schleswig-Holstein's Minister for Energy Transition and Climate Protection, Tobias Goldschmidt, together with the Energieküste, met with great interest from beyond the region. Around 130 participants discussed the further expansion of gas, electricity and hydrogen networks between Brunsbüttel, Heide and in the German North Sea on 16 November 2022 in Dithmarschen.

Worldwide attention
"We have a large number of projects for a climate-neutral future and are in a damn good position as far as grids and power lines are concerned," Goldschmidt said. "Businesses want to transform and use green energy. Areas need to be developed all along the Energieküste," added Dirk Burmeister.

Through our projects we have European-wide, even worldwide attention."

Dr Benjamin Merkt, Member of the Board Schleswig-Holstein Netz AG: "We need a binding planning basis for the expansion." "Energy islands are already an issue in Denmark. We need a Europe-wide grid, the North Sea is becoming the power plant of Europe," said Tim Meyerjürgens, COO TenneT TSO GmbH. The Northvolt battery cell factory was also a hot topic. "Everyone needs to talk, in Brussels, Berlin and Kiel. Here on site, people think progressively," said Nicolas Steinbacher.

Everyone wants to make Heide possible.

New cooperation for grid expansion

A cooperation agreement for the expansion of power lines in the Dithmarschen region was the highlight of the event. Goldschmidt presented it together with the District Administrator of Dithmarschen, Stefan Mohrdieck, Tim Meyerjürgens, Dr Benjamin Merkt, Stefan Kapferer (Chairman of the Board of Directors of 50Hertz Transmission GmbH) and Arndt Feldmann (Overall Project Manager Corridor B at Amprion GmbH). The cooperation includes joint guidelines from the district, grid operators and the state, which are intended to accelerate the expansion of power lines in Dithmarschen.

Often the key to solving global challenges is found in the regional.
Tobias Goldschmidt, SH Energy Transition Minister

"We have to be quick. Today's declaration of cooperation is a commitment by the actors operating in Schleswig-Holstein to push ahead with the expansion of climate-neutral infrastructure as quickly as possible," said Goldschmidt. There was also great joy among all the other participants. Stefan Mohrdieck: "With the declaration of cooperation, there is clear progress with future-oriented goals, such as in hydrogen, mobility and heat projects." Stefan Kapferer: "The innovative DC electricity hub here in the Heide area is an excellent example of exactly this kind of networking. 50Hertz is proud to be able to make a further contribution to the decarbonisation of our society here."

With this cooperation, new opportunities are opening up for our entire region.
Stefan Mohrdieck, District Administrator Dithmarschen
